Sean Murray, the game director behind No Man’s Sky, has jokingly put out a tweet about the game’s new ‘Mixed’ review rankings on the game’s steam store page.
It’s been a big week for Hello Games, the team behind the contentious space-faring exploration game, No Man’s Sky. The team recently launched the game on the Xbox One along with the brand-new NEXT update, which completely overhauled the game’s systems and rejuvenated interest in the title. So far, the update has been well received, much to Game Director Sean Murray’s delight on Twitter.
Sean Murray jokingly tweeted about No Man’s Sky’s bump from the “Mostly Negative” reviews the game has seen since launch, to the now “Mixed” overall reviews. It’s worth noting that the game’s more recent reviews currently have the game sitting at “Very Positive,” which explains why the game is currently outselling Grand Theft Auto 5 on PC.
The team behind No Man’s Sky has worked hard on updating the game since its launch back in 2016, regularly adding new content such as base building to provide the experience they promised two years ago. Given the amount of work the team has put in, this must be quite the payoff. Fan reaction to the update thus far has been positive, with players everywhere sharing picturesque screenshots and interesting lifeforms they’ve encountered along their journey to the center of the universe.
While the reviews are now balancing out, No Man’s Sky still has quite a way to go before it completely wins back fan favor. After all, the game was considered by many to be a major disappointment. Some players even went so far as to send death threats to members of the development team, including Sean Murray himself.
No Man’s Sky serves as a perfect example of how much games can evolve over time in the wake of the Internet, whereas games of the past were largely stuck with the same quality as when they were released. It’ll be interesting to see if interest in the title holds as Hello Games releases even more content for the game in the future, but for now, the team should breathe a sigh of relief and continue to explore the stars.
No Man’s Sky is available now for PC, Xbox One, and PS4.
