Former GOP Senate candidate, Roy Moore, is the latest political figure to fall prey to comedian Sacha Baron Cohen’s new show “Who Is America?”
The failed Alabama Senate candidate sat for an interview with Cohen, who was disguised as an Israeli counter-terrorism expert. What began with questions about Alabama’s connection to Israel quickly devolved as Cohen showed off what he said was a cutting edge piece of Israeli defense technology.
“In Israel they have developed a machine that is used in schools and playgrounds to detect anyone coming in, and if they detect a pedophile, the wand alerts law enforcement and schools within a 100-mile radius,” Cohen said of the fictional technological wonder.
“It is very simple to use, you just switch it on,” Cohen explained. “And because neither of us are sex offenders, then it makes absolutely nothing.”
The wand remained silent when Cohen waved it over his own body, but an alarm was triggered every time it passed over Moore.
Cohen’s gag is undoubtedly in reference to the number of allegations that surfaced against Moore during his failed Senate campaign. Moore has long maintained his innocence of any wrongdoing, but Cohen’s gag clearly got under his skin. Moore sat in awkward silence while Cohen fiddled with the wand and repeatedly waved it over him, setting off the alarm.
“I’ve been married for 33,” Moore said. “I’ve never had an accusation of such things.”
“I am not accusing you at all!” Cohen fired back.
“Well then, if this is an instrument, I — then certainly I’m not a pedophile,” Moore answered.
At that point, Moore cut off the interview and began to walk out. “I support Israel,” he added. “I don’t support this kind of stuff.”
