This year’s Samsung Galaxy Note flagship launch may get delayed by a couple of weeks if rumour mills are to be believed. The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 will be the latest in the highly successful line-up of Samsung Galaxy Note phones, which are smaller than tablet devices and larger than the average smartphone 5-6 inch display handsets.
Apart from a better design, the Note 9 is expected to improve over the Galaxy Note 8 substantially in several areas where it matters most. So, let’s check out what the latest developments are about.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 was rumoured to be set for launch on August 9 in New York, but tech geeks in South Korea have it that the launch has been delayed to August 24. Even so, the launch will come earlier than that of Apple iPhones for 2018, which are expected to launch in or after September. Also, there is no other new Samsung Galaxy flagship model to be launched this year, so anticipation is quite high around the launch date of the Galaxy Note 9.
A version of Samsung Galaxy Note 9 has been leaked online, with peeks at the Note 9’s listing on TENAA, the mobile certification agency in China. The Galaxy Note 9 has already received an approval from the Federal Communications Commission with the model number SM-N600.
The listing on TENAA also shows the same model number, meaning that the handset is nearly ready for launch. The leaked TENAA listing shows that the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 handset is ready for TD-LTE and other GSM networks, with dual SIM card slots.
The TENAA listing also reveals that the handset will run Android, but does specify which version. It is, however, expected that the Note 9 will run the latest Android Oreo.
It was in the rumours already that the new Samsung Galaxy Note 9 will sport a 6.4-inch display, with an aspect ratio of 18.5:9, which means it could be bezel-less and may even feature a notch on the display. The standard memory variant will be, according to what we know but isn’t confirmed, 6GB RAM and 64GB internal storage. The RAM remains the same in its other storage variants of 128GB and 256GB.
The device may house the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 octa-core SoC and Samsung’s Exynos 9810 octa-core processor. The Exynos 9810 belongs to the Samsung Exynos 9 series, with 64-bit octa-core and a third generation custom-built CPU paired to 10nm FinFET chips.
Among other rumoured specifications and features are a dual rear camera, a selfie camera, low-light photography support, a revamped Stylus touch-pen, a large 4,000 mAh battery, a possible 128GB standard internal storage instead of 64GB, and Bluetooth capability for its touch pen.
By comparison, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 comes with a 6.3-inch always-on display, Exynos 8895 and Snapdragon 835 chipsets, a 3,300 mAh battery, a 12MP+12MP dual rear camera and an 8MP selfie shooter with auto HDR, 64GB internal storage expandable up to 512 GB and standard 6GB RAM.
The handset also packs an Iris scanner, heart rate counter, HTML5 browser, Quick Charge 2.0, wireless charging for select markets, voice command, Bluetooth 5.0 and Type-C USB 3.1 cable.
Keep coming back to these columns as we update the latest of specifications as and when they are leaked or confirmed.
