A mother cut EPA administrator Scott Pruitt ‘s lunch short Monday after approaching him in a D. C. restaurant and encouraging him to resign.
Elementary school teacher Kristin Mink posted a Facebook video of the confrontation, which shows her holding her two-year old son and telling Scott his policies are harming children.
“We deserve to have somebody at the EPA who actually does protect our environment,” Mink said. “Someone who believes in climate change and takes it seriously, for the benefit of all of us, including our children.”
Mink listed regulations that Pruitt has rolled back, including emissions standards for cars and trucks.
The mother wrote on Facebook that Pruitt, his lunch guest, and two security guards left the restaurant before she returned to her table.
“Administrator Pruitt always welcomes input from Americans, whether they agree or disagree with decisions being made at EPA. This is evident by him listening to her comments and going on to thank her, which is not shown in the video. His leaving had nothing to do with the confrontation, he had simply finished his meal and needed to get back to EPA for a briefing.”
A manager of the restaurant who spoke on condition of anonymity said Pruitt’s decision to eat there surprised her.
“This is a restaurant that is very outspoken about being protective of the environment,” she told the Daily News. “We’re flattered he likes our food. This could hopefully be a step in the right direction.”
Pruitt has been involved in numerous ethical scandals, including renting a Capitol Hill condo below market-rate from a fossil fuel lobbyist.
“I would urge you to resign before your scandals push you out,” Mink said.
