Television images showed a smoking remains of a crashed jetliner in the northern state of Durango
An Aeromexico passenger plane crashed in Mexico’s central state of Durango on Tuesday, images posted on Mexican television and official social media showed. It was unclear whether there were casualties.
The Mexican airline said on its Twitter account that the plane, an Embraer ERJ-190AR jet with capacity of 100 passengers, had been scheduled to fly from Durango city’s Guadalupe Victoria Airport to Mexico City.
The plane apparently crashed shortly after departure.
The governor of Durango state, José R. Aispuro, said on his Twitter account that he had ordered security and emergency workers “to attend the unfortunate accident.”
Photos posted to social media by the Durango branch of the country’s Civil Protection Agency showed thick black smoke rising from the body of the plane. Several ambulances were also seen in the area just off what appeared to be a runway.
