Here’s everything you need to know to tune into Chievo vs Juventus this evening − and best of all, you can watch it for free.
It’s all rather exciting. We’ve all had August 18 marked in our diaries ever since the Old Lady signed the Portuguese for €100 million back in early July. He found the back of the net during his first outing for his new club, a pre-season friendly against Juventus’ youngsters − but this is the first game that really matters.
The reigning Italian champions have won a frankly rather depressing seven Scudetti on the bounce, and their capture of Ronaldo almost guarantees an eighth. But the real reason they bought him, of course, was to help them to Champions League glory, and in order to do that Massimiliano Allegri needs to find a way to fit him into an already extremely well-oiled machine of a team without ruining the formula they’ve worked so hard to fine-tune.
Chievo, who have former Juve and Sunderland forward Emanuele Giaccherini in their ranks, would love to cause an upset, especially with most of the world watching on. And the underdogs will have plenty of support in their corner, not least because of their spectacular nickname: The Flying Donkeys.
(But also, Serie A looks like even more of a one-horse race than it was before, and all manner of sponsors will surely milk Ronaldo’s debut for all it’s worth − tsk, modern football. Wouldn’t it be fun for the party to be ruined?)
Without further ado, here’s how to tune into today’s game.
Eleven Sports will be live-streaming the game for viewers based in the UK, and you don’t have to pay a penny to watch Ronaldo’s debut.
That’s because Eleven Sports is showing it for free on its UK Facebook page. Just log on in time for kick-off, which is set for 5pm BST.
We’re yet to try out Eleven Sports for ourselves, so the standard of commentary’s currently a bit of a mystery, but for free, the Facebook live-stream is well worth a look.
