Officers have arrested 37-year-old Fernando Cruz, who they say took his three children from a home in Sturgis.
ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, MI – Three children have been found safe after their father allegedly threatened to harm them, triggering an Amber Alert.
Officers have arrested 37-year-old Fernando Cruz, who they say took his three children from a home in Sturgis.
An Amber Alert was issued early Thursday, Aug. 30, after Cruz allegedly threatened to harm his children, ages 5,4 and 2. Sturgis police considered him armed and dangerous.
Sturgis Public Safety Director Geoff Smith said at the scene said a negotiator was called in but did not have time to work. Smith said he talked to Cruz on the phone and Cruz agreed to turn himself in.
Cruz faces charges of domestic violence and fleeing and eluding, and likely will face more charges related to the Amber Alert.
