Chinese exports grow despite US tariffs, but forecasts for world trade revised down

Chinese exports increased last month despite tariffs imposed by the US, but the trade war still led to forecasts for global gross domestic product (GDP) to be revised down.

Chinese exports increased 12.2pc in July compared with the previous year in dollar terms. This is above a 10pc median average of economist predictions prepared by Bloomberg.
This shows the tariffs on $34bn (£26.4bn) worth of Chinese goods imposed by President Donald Trump in early July have yet to have a major effect on trade flows.
