Hillary Clinton and Steven Spielberg are teaming up to create a TV series based on the book “The Woman’s Hour” by Elaine Weiss. The book, published in March of this year, addresses the story of women gaining the right to vote.
The show will be produced through Spielberg’s company, Amblin Television. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the show is in the early stages of production and Clinton will be very active in searching for a writer for the show.
Clinton released a statement Wednesday sharing why the project is personally important to her:
“At the heart of democracy lies the ballot box, and Elaine Weiss’s unforgettable book tells the story of the female leaders who – in the face of towering economic, racial, and political opposition – fought for and won American women’s right to vote. Unfolding over six-weeks in the summer of 1920, The Woman’s Hour is both a page-turning drama and an inspiration for everyone, young and old, male and female, in these perilous times. So much could have gone wrong, but these American women would not take no for an answer: their triumph is our legacy to guard and emulate.”
Just as excited as Clinton is the author if the book. Weiss wrote on Twitter that she’s “thrilled” to announce the project.

It has yet to be announced what network the show will air on and who’s to be cased in main roles. But for Clinton, the most exciting news is sharing the story of the women who fought for their rights almost a century ago.
I’m thrilled to be joining forces with Steven Spielberg to bring @efweiss5 ’s book “The Woman’s Hour” to TV. It’s about the women who fought for suffrage nearly 100 years ago. We stand on their shoulders, and I’m delighted to have a hand in helping to tell their stories.

Clinton’s not the only politican-turned-producer. Barack and Michelle Obama announced earlier this year they will be producing original content for Netflix.
