Powered, Logitech’s new iPhone stand, is equipped with a Qi wireless charger, meaning it will keep your handset topped up with juice even as you use it.
As well as being sleekly designed (the stand was apparently designed by Logitech in collaboration with Apple itself), Powered is also equipped with subtle details such as a rear-mounted status LED and a rubberised cradle that should keep your phone secure.
Although this is an Apple-focused accessory, since it uses the Qi wireless standard it should work with any devices that support it. That said, using an Apple device (such as the iPhone X, iPhone 8, or iPhone 8 Plus) is the only way to unlock the maximum 7.5W of charge, otherwise you’ll be limited to just 5W.
The new stand is available now for $79.99 in the US and will be available in the UK for £69.99 in August 2018. No word on an exact release date, but if things go to plan it won’t be far away.
Wireless charging is a phone feature that’s always sounded more convenient than it actually is.
In theory it’s so simple — you just throw a phone down on a surface and it charges — but in reality the charging pads available are so small that they’re not much more convenient than plugging in a USB cable.
This charging stand is a good example. It looks like a decent implementation of wireless charging, but it’s only slightly more convenient than using a stand with a built-in lightning connector like people have been selling for years.
The big benefit here is that Logitech’s Powered will work regardless of what port your phone is equipped with.
