OPPO’s India-focused brand Realme will be launching its second Android smartphone in the country next week. The first Realme smartphone, the Realme 1, witnessed great success in the Indian markets, thanks to its unique design and decent hardware specifications. Its successor, the Realme 2, is expected to be even more impressive in almost all areas. With significant upgrades in the display, camera, and battery life departments, the Realme 2 could prove to be a much stronger competitor to the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro than its predecessor.
Unlike the OPPO Realme 1, the Realme 2 will come with a 6.2-inch notched display featuring 1080 x 2280 Full HD+ resolution and a 19:9 aspect ratio. Thanks to the notch at the top of the display, the Realme 2 will have a screen-to-body ratio of 88.8%, a significant improvement over the 75.7% screen-to-body ratio of its predecessor. In comparison, the Redmi Note 5 Pro features a 5.99-inch Full screen display with 1080 x 2160 Full HD+ resolution and an 18:9 aspect ratio.

The Realme 1 comes with a single 13MP rear camera at the rear, which isn’t quite competitive when compared to most of its rivals, which are equipped with dual rear cameras. Its successor, however, is expected to feature a more impressive 13MP + 2MP dual-camera setup on the back. In addition to the secondary 2MP depth sensor, the Realme 2 will have the AI-powered intelligent scene recognition and an AI Portrait mode to help users capture portraits with a DSLR-like background blur effect. The Redmi Note 5 Pro is equipped with a 12MP + 5MP dual-camera at the rear with similar AI features and support for Full HD video capture.
The Realme 1 is not a best-in-class smartphone when it comes to battery life, thanks to a 3410mAh capacity battery. Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 packs a larger 4000mAh capacity battery, allowing it to deliver superior battery life. The Realme 2, however, could prove to be even more impressive than the Redmi Note 5 Pro in terms of battery life. As confirmed by a teaser released by the company recently, the Realme 2 will pack a highly impressive 4230mAh capacity battery. The smartphone is expected to come with fast charging support as well, although this has not been officially confirmed just yet.
Most budget smartphones these days come with both a fingerprint sensor as well as facial recognition. The Realme 1, however, only supports Facial Unlock and lacks a fingerprint sensor. Thankfully, Realme has learnt from its mistake and has included a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor on the Realme 2. Even though the company has not teased the feature officially, we are pretty sure that the Realme 2 will come with facial unlock support as well. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro comes with both a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor as well as Face Unlock for quick access.

The Realme 2 is expected to be exclusively available from Flipkart and could start at less than Rs.10,000 in India. While the base variant of the smartphone will obviously have less RAM and onboard storage compared to the more expensive variants, it will still have all the key features such as the notched display and large 4230mAh capacity battery. The Redmi Note 5 Pro currently starts at Rs.14,999 in India for the base 4GB RAM + 64GB storage variant. If you wish to get the 6GB RAM + 64GB storage variant, you will need to pay Rs.16,999. We expect the top-end variant of the Realme 2 to be priced at or under Rs.14,999.
