Sony confirms five of the 20 games that will come pre-loaded with the PlayStation Classic, including critically-acclaimed JRPGs like Final Fantasy 7 and Wild Arms.
Earlier this week, Sony surprised the world with the announcement of the PlayStation Classic. A mini-console in the same vein as the NES and SNES Classics, the PlayStation Classic will launch on December 3 for $99.99, and it will come pre-loaded with 20 PS1 games. Besides the console’s announcement, Sony revealed five of the 20 games that will be included with the system, with more to be announced at a later date.
At the time of this writing, the lineup of PlayStation Classic games consists of five titles that all received decent to strong reviews when they released, and earned some sales success as well. Here are the five games announced for the PlayStation Classic so far:
As the list illustrates, the PlayStation Classic will consist of two JRPG classics in the form of Final Fantasy 7 and Wild Arms. It will also have one of the earliest 3D platformers in Jumping Flash!, a racing game in R4: Ridge Racer Type-4, and one of the most critically-acclaimed fighting games of all time, Tekken 3. For some, these five titles may be enough to justify the PlayStation Classic’s price tag, but it’s worth pointing out that 15 more games are on the way.
It’s unclear what other titles will be included in the PlayStation Classic, but it’s likely that the games will differ by region. For those interested in these miniature consoles, that should come as no surprise, as we saw the same thing happen with the NES Classic and the SNES Classic. Of course, we don’t know which games will be region-exclusive yet, but it will be interesting to find out.
It’s possible Sony will release a second PlayStation Classic or something along those lines in the future if it decides it wants to re-release even more games, but we do know that the one releasing on December 3 will not add any games after launch. In fact, it won’t have any online connectivity at all, so fans should keep that in mind.
