The PUBG player count has dipped below a million for the first time in a year due to the release of the Black Ops 4 Blackout beta.
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is feeling the first effects of the release of Call of Duty Black Ops 4’s Blackout battle royale mode, and PUBG player count has dipped below a million for the first time in a year, just as the Black Ops 4 Blackout beta has started for pre-order owners.
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has had a great deal of success on both PC and Xbox One, despite Fortnite having cut deeply into its player count along with incidents with Chinese hackers and a number of different other issues like slow updates. However, it’s still managed to maintain a fairly steady player count.
However, much like many people predicted, the advent of another highly popular shooter like Call of Duty eventually making its own battle royale mode means that there’s likely going to be a huge player dropoff in the future, especially on a much wider-ranging and likely more frequently updated game.
The Call of Duty Black Ops 4 Blackout mode has recently gone into beta for those players that have pre-ordered the game, which is the main reason that the PUBG player count has dropped so much, failing to break a million for the first time in a year by 40,000. Its larger variety of maps, smoother framerate, and accessibility has likely bee the reason for that alongside the hype that comes with every Call of Duty game.
Call of Duty Black Ops 4’s Blackout map has a great deal of things going for it. In addition to crazier weapons and a variety of tools and vehicles you can use (including wingsuits, helicopters, boats, and jeeps), and even zombies to fight if you manage to stumble into the game’s Asylum area, the PUBG player count might drop even more when Black Ops 4 comes out.
Call of Duty Black Ops 4 will be releasing on October 12 of this year for the Xbox One, Playstation 4, and PC.
