On September 27, Ricky Skaggs was officially inducted into the International Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame at the IBMA awards ceremony.
He was inducted by his long-time friend, Grammy-winning country artist Marty Stuart. This Hall of Fame induction is the highest honor bestowed in the bluegrass genre of music. Skaggs was inducted in the International Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame’s Class of 2018 along with Paul Williams, Tom T. Hall and the late Dixie Hall.
Stuart introduced Skaggs as a « radical revisionist, » as well as a « traditionalist » and « keeper of the flame. » Stuart praised him for always keeping his music moving forward, and for being a major influence for people in the country and bluegrass music industry.
In his humble acceptance speech, Skaggs expressed his appreciation for this coveted award. » He shared that bluegrass is the music of his youth, as well as the « foundation » of everything that he has ever recorded. « I want to thank the IBMA and all those who voted for me, » Skaggs said, graciously. « I also want to thank the Lord Jesus. He deserves all glory. »
In 1997, Skaggs founded his own independent record label, Skaggs Family Records, in an effort to help preserve bluegrass music. Over the years, Skaggs has helped multiple bluegrass acts thrive and nurture their careers.
In the following month, Skaggs will be officially inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, as part of its Class of 2018.
