Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Receives a Massive Price Cut in China After Redmi Note 6 Pro Launch

Xiaomi recently unveiled its Redmi Note 6 Pro in China. It’s the latest mid-range phablet offering from the Chinese OEM and comes marked with a highly competitive price tag. It essentially replaces the last generation Redmi Note 5, which apparently sells in India as the Redmi Note 5 Pro.
With the Redmi Note 6 Pro set to hit shelves in a few days, it as a matter of time before Xiaomi announced an official price cut for its last generation smartphone. Well, it seems that the Chinese brand has made an announcement already, albeit silently. Apparently, the base variant of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage is currently available for sale in China at a price of just 869 Yuan (Rs 9,173). This is a marked departure from its initial launch price of 1,099 Yuan (Rs 11,701). The offer is, however, only applicable on Xiaomi’s official Mi Mall website. It is expected to roll out on other platforms including Jingdong, Suning and more.
While Xiaomi isn’t ready to acknowledge it, but the price cut is most likely due to the introduction of its new Redmi Note 6 Pro. That said, so far, the price slash is applicable only on the base variant of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5. We can, however, expect all other variants of the phablet to receive the same treatment in the long run.
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 has been a pretty popular smartphone from the Chinese OEM so far. It comes with an all-metal unibody design that very similar to what we have seen from Xiaomi in the past. The last generation mid-range smartphone is apparently available for sale in India as the Redmi Note 5 Pro. Xiaomi basically sells its Redmi 5 Plus in the country as the Redmi Note 5.
One of the most highlighting features of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 is its rear camera setup. Unlike the budget Redmi’s, the phablet sports a vertically aligned dual rear camera unit comprising of 12MP f/1.9 primary and 5MP f/2.0 secondary depth sensors. Xiaomi has, in fact, carried forward the same camera setup to its new Redmi Note 6 Pro, with the only difference being in the aperture of the primary sensor. Apart from the camera, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 packs a punch in the battery department. The 4,000mAH battery found inside the phablet offers an impeccable battery life, and can easily last through a day or two of heavy to moderate usage.,
Other features of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 aka. Redmi Note 5 Pro includes a 5.99 inch FHD+ IPS LCD display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 octa-core processor, up to 6GB RAM and 64GB storage. The last generation mid-range phablet from Xiaomi comes with a fingerprint sensor, support for face unlock and a set of other connectivity options which includes WiFi 802.11 b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.0, A-GPS, GLONASS and more.
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 runs on Android Oreo 8.1 with MIUI 10 on top. It comes in a set of color hues namely Black, Gold, Rose Gold, Blue, and a newly introduced Flame Red.
