Conservative writer Ben Shapiro on Monday slammed President Trump for describing some members of the media as the « enemy of the people. »
« This ‘enemy of the people’ stuff has to stop, but it won’t, » Shapiro tweeted.
Earlier in the day the president criticized what he called the « Fake News Media, » referring to them as the « true Enemy of the People. »
The president has repeatedly referred to some members of the news media as « Fake News, » which he has called the « enemy of the people. »
Shapiro has frequently criticized the media for its treatment of Trump and the GOP, but he has also condemned the president’s use of the phrase « enemy of the people. »
Maggie Haberman, The New York Time’s White House correspondent, also hit back against Trump’s tweet .
Conservatives’ trust in the media has been declining for years. After general confidence in the media hit a record low in 2016, Republican’s trust in news outlets has held at a 14 percent, according to Gallup. Meanwhile, Democrats’ confidence in the media has risen to a 20-year high of 70 percent.
