Warner Brothers are going to distribute Cyberpunk 2077. The game is rumored to release in 2019 as a Turkish retailer lists release window.
Cyberpunk 2077 is distributed by Warner Brothers, CD Projekt RED confirmed in a press release today. Both companies partnered for The Witcher 2 Assassins Kings and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The series has sold over 33 million copies as of 2017.
The release date of Cyberpunk 2077 isn’t confirmed for the time being. However, a Turkish retailer that has worked with CD Projekt RED in the past listed a 2019 release on Twitter. Due to the nature of the Tweet CD Projekt RED seems to have asked the retailer to take it down. The Tweet is no longer there.
The leak suggests CD Projekt RED could announce a release date soon.
In other news, Cyberpunk 2077 developers are in a little pickle right now. The Witcher author Andrzej Sapkowski has issued a demand of payment notice to CD Projekt RED. Andrzej Sapkowski is looking for $16 million in royalties from The Witcher video game series and related products. Under the original agreement, he sold the rights to CD Projekt RED for an undisclosed amount. Reportedly, the amount was close to USD 10,000.
At the time he didn’t have faith in the potential of his creation. Later he called it a “stupid” decision to sell it all for cheap. There is some legal ground to his claim but ultimately the decision would rest on the judge’s shoulder if this case goes to court.
But the statements he made in the media about his agreement could be used against him in the court of law. CD Projekt RED lawyers called his claim “groundless.”
This is a developing story and we will have more for you as soon as the story develops.
