At the Pixel 3 and 3 XL ( first impressions) launch event, Google also announced a bunch of other hardware. Among these, Google’s smart display – the Google Home Hub. We’ve already seen smart displays with Google Assistant baked in from the likes of Lenovo and LG, and now Google has launched one of its own. The Home Hub is basically a Google Home speaker with a display in the front. Google has cleverly designed the speaker so that it doubles up as a kickstand. The Home Hub comes in four colours – Chalk, Charcoal, Aqua and Sand. The display measures 7-inches, and features an Ambient EQ light sensor to adjust the display brightness according to the available light in the room. Google intentionally didn’t put a front camera on the device, to avoid privacy concerns. There’s also a physical mute switch at the back you can flip to prevent Home Hub from listening. Thanks to the display, you’ll now also see this information on a screen – think weather, calendar, reminders, route maps and more. Google also says the Home Hub can recognise up to six individual voices for personalised responses. Home Hub can also function as a digital photoframe with Google Photos, and control your various smart home devices. Spotify, Pandora and iHeartRadio are also supported if you have subscriptions, as is YouTube. In fact, Google is bundling six months of YouTube Premium with the device. The Google Home Hub costs $149 (~Rs 11,000) in the US, but availability in India hasn’t been announced yet. For now, take a look at the device in the slideshow embedded below.
