Google’s upcoming flagship smartphones have been leaked numerous times over the past few months. But the tech giant’s latest statement has put all the rumors surrounding the devices under suspicion.
Perhaps no other smartphones have been as widely leaked in recent history as Google’s upcoming flagship devices, the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL. With initial rumors on one of the phones reportedly sporting a notched display having appeared as early as May, there has been a seemingly endless stream of leaked content regarding both devices since then. This includes reports of new color variations, multiple unboxings, and even alleged real-world images of the devices.
However, undoubtedly the biggest surprise came yesterday, when the Pixel 3 XL became available for purchase in Hong Kong a full three days before its official unveiling. Users have since expressed their disappointment at its somewhat mediocre specifications and more so, its unimaginative design.
Google has now put all the aforementioned information in doubt by posting a video montage of leakers claiming to have full knowledge of the Pixel 3 and Pixel XL. Along with the video are the words « So you think you know… Tune in tomorrow to see for yourself », seemingly being posed as a challenge to all those who believe that they are aware of every detail regarding the yet unannounced devices.
As such, the whole situation has taken a rather interesting turn, with any previously released images or specifications now under question. It should be noted, however, that this message doesn’t come entirely out of the blue; there have been reports of Google trying to create a specific narrative regarding the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, aiming to pull off what could be considered one of the most clever hoaxes in tech history. With the tech giant’s latest statement, this theory has become all the more plausible.
The alleged case of deception actually turning out to be the real deal does not only make the official Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL reveal massively intriguing for Pixel fans, but perhaps for neutral viewers as well. In any case, the truth will come to light in less than 20 hours, and you can live stream Google’s annual hardware launch event here.
