Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell mocked The New York Times for revealing that Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh was once questioned by police after throwing ice at a bar in 1985.
“Last night, ‘The New York Times’ unleashed this major story. Get this. Judge Kavanaugh may have been accused of throwing some ice across a college bar in the mid-1980s. Talk about a bombshell,” McConnell said, adding, “One can only imagine what new bombshell might be published today or tomorrow.”
McConnell referenced a Monday evening story from TheNYT revealing that “as an undergraduate student at Yale, Brett M. Kavanaugh was involved in an altercation at a local bar during which he was accused of throwing ice on another patron.”
White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders quickly pointed out that one of the reporters who wrote TheNYT story had publicly voiced her opposition to Kavanaugh’s nomination in July.
Democrats desperately attack Judge Kavanaugh for throwing ice during college. What motivated New York Times reporter to write this ridiculous story? Throwing ice 33 years ago, or her opinion of Judge Kavanaugh in July? https://t.co/JwiP3ELqkD
