Nubia has launched yet another smartphone in China, dubbed Nubia X. The phone has been unveiled at a launch event today, on October 31. The highlights of the Nubia X include dual touchscreen displays – one at the front and the other on the back. It is not an entirely new design that we have seen on any phone, but in the mainstream market the Nubia X does come out as a first to feature two-screen design.
The Nubia X features two displays within a profile of 8.4mm. There are two fingerprint scanners placed on sides of the phone for using both the screens. Nubia claims that the phone can unlock at just 0.1 seconds. The Nubia X uses 7000-series aviation grade aluminum frame. There is four-sided curved 3D glass on the rear of the phone. The front screen is of 6.26-inches with full HD+ resolution of 2280 x 1080 pixels at 93.6 percent of screen-to-body ratio. Aspect ratio on both the screen is 19:9. The second display on the back side settles for a 5.1-inches screen with HD+ 720 x 1520 pixels resolution. The second display is an Always On Display with eye protection mode.
Under the hood, the phone packs powerful specifications. It is powered by a Snapdragon 845 chipset paired with 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 2.1 storage (depending on the variant). Since the phone has two-screens, it can get heated up easily, which is why Nubia has integrated multi-layer graphene cooling technology. In the imaging segment, the phone sports a 16MP+24MP dual rear cameras with f/1.8 aperture and f/1.7 aperture, respectively, and dual tone LED flash. Other dual camera features include dual pixel PDAF, HDR, AI portrait mode, AI scene recognition, and 240fps slow-mo video recording.
With the dual-screen design, the phone leaves selfie camera as users can use the dual-camera for capturing selfies. To get brighter selfies, the phone feature soft light LED as well. Connectivity options on the Nubia X include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, and USB Type-C. A 3800mAh battery backs the device, which is claimed to survive up to 3-hour on 5-percent battery life with the ultra-low-power mode. On the software side, the phone boots Android 8.1 OS layered with Nubia UI 6.0 X.
Two screens on a single phone could lay too much pressure on eyes, which is why Nubia X has a dedicated app for the users to develop healthy eye habits. The app includes functions such as fatigue reminder, dark light reminder, and more. There is also an AI dual-screen switching feature that automatically switches displaying content of the main screen to the other side when flipped. Well, we do think that two-screens could prove to have an impact on users, especially, their eyes.
The Nubia X is launched in Deep Gray, Sea Blue, Black Gold, and Blue Gold color options. The 6GB RAM + 64 GB storage variant is priced at CNY 3299 (roughly INR), 8GB RAM + 128GB Storage at CNY 3,699 (roughly INR 39,239), 8GB RAM + 256GB storage model at CNY 4,199 (roughly INR 44,543).
