The OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T are currently receiving a new OxygenOS software update in India. OnePlus has started to seed the OxygenOS 5.1.6 update, which features some new features and improvements. The Chinese manufacturer has been doing very well in India and is one of the biggest names in the premium smartphone market. It was briefly the top premium smartphone selling in the country as well.
The company has been very diligent when it comes to software updates and usually provides at least one stable update every month. OnePlus also promised that all its smartphones, starting from the OnePlus 3, will be eligible for the Android 9.0 update.
OnePlus’s latest software update for the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T, is available as an OTA download. It is currently being seeded to all devices in India. In case you haven’t received it yet, you can wait another day or two for the update to appear. You can also head to the Settings app and manually check for it in System Updates.
The latest update brings a couple of new features and improvements to the devices. Firstly, the update brings full support for Project Treble on both the OnePlus 5 and 5T. Project Treble is a software implementation from Google that makes it easier and faster for OEMs to provide software updates. OnePlus had brought Project Treble support for the OnePlus 5/5T in the previous update, however, the latest update improves it.
Apart from this, the update adds VoLTE support for IDEA Cellular, installs the latest October Android security patch, and improves the Bluetooth stability during phone calls. That’s about it. Those who are running OxygenOS 5.1.5 will receive the update over-the-air. We recommend that you download and install the update only if your device is connected to a stable Wi-Fi network, and has more than 50 percent charge.
Users of the OnePlus 5 and 5T are eagerly waiting for the Android 9.0 Pie update for their devices. The OnePlus 6 has already received the update, which means that the OnePlus 5 and 5T are next in line. Those who are running OxygenOS beta on their devices, will be the first to get the Pie update, and it looks like it is happening very soon.
In a post on the OnePlus forum, a OnePlus rep mentioned that the company is working hard on the Android 9.0 Pie update for the OnePlus 5/5T. He also stated that a big update is coming soon. The devices are due for a new OxygenOS beta update in a week, which means that the next update could be Pie. We will have to wait a little longer to find out if that is indeed the case. A stable Android Pie update will take at least another month or two.
