Porcello and the Red Sox are headed to the ALCS.
Prior to this postseason, Rick Porcello had appeared in 11 playoff games, including four starts.
Porcello’s teams lost every one of those.
That fortune flipped in the ALDS for Porcello, as he picked up first postseason win in the Boston Red Sox’s series clincher against the New York Yankees on Tuesday night.
Porcello went five innings and gave up just one earned run, as Boston won 4-3. He also pitched two-thirds of an inning in the Red Sox’s Game 1 win at home.
The 29-year-old Porcello appeared in eight playoff games for the Detroit Tigers from 2011-2013.
In addition to giving first-year manager Alex Cora a quality start, Porcello also stood up for embattled umpire Angel Hernandez, who was called out by C. Sabathia after the game.
Game 1 of the ALCS against the Houston Astros is Saturday in Boston.
