Six Flags theme parks throw down wagers on the World Series

If the Dodgers win — which, c’mon is a certainty — Six Flags New England would have to rename a roller coaster in the team’s honor.
The Six Flags amusement parks closest to Los Angeles and Boston have placed a friendly wager on the outcome of the Dodgers-Red Sox World Series that will see the loser eating crow in a very public way.
When the Dodgers win — and trust me the Dodgers will win — Six Flags New England will rename the Thunderbolt wooden coaster the Dodger Thunderbolt, the park will fly a Dodgers flag atop its 20-story Scream drop tower and park president Pete Carmichael will don a Dodgers jersey.
If by some miracle the Red Sox win, which is never going to happen, Six Flags Magic Mountain would change the name of the New Revolution steel coaster to the Red Sox Revolution, the park will fly the BoSox flag at the front gate and park president Neal Thurman would wear a Sox jersey.
As a Boston native living in Southern California, I’m torn between my allegiances.
My father is lifelong Red Sox fan who spends many sleepless nights trying to come down from a roller coaster ride of emotions following a nail-biting playoff game. I’d like to see him get some rest. But then again, the Red Sox have won enough titles in recent years.
On the other hand, my blood runs Dodger blue for my adoptive hometown team. And as a long-time theme park writer, I know Six Flags New England’s measly collection of a dozen sub-par coasters can’t hold a candle to Magic Mountain’s world-record 19 thrill machines. And besides, it’s been three decades since the Dodgers won it all.
Sorry Dad. I’m going with the boys in blue and the Mountain on this one. Get ready to ride the Dodgers Thunderbolt, you Boston bums.
