EAST MORICHES, N.Y. (AP) — A small plane ended up on a Long Island road after authorities say the aircraft ran off a runway. No one was injured.
It happened around 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Lufker Airport, a small airfield in East Moriches (mohr-ICH’-ehz). The Federal Aviation Administration says a Piper PA-28 landed but rolled off the runway onto the two-lane Montauk Highway, with two people aboard.
Suffolk County police say the plane hit a sign, damaging its propeller and a wing.
Police say the pilot, 30-year-old Nedie Seidu, took off from Republic Airport in Farmingdale, about 40 miles west.
No contact information for Seidu could immediately be found.
FAA records show the single-engine plane is owned by a Delaware company with the same name as a Farmingdale flight school. A man who answered its phone declined comment.
