The Z5 Pro lacks a notch and has a 95% screen-to-body ratio.
During the summer, leaks were surfacing that suggested Lenovo was here to save us all from the notched smartphone reality that we face today. That smartphone was called the Lenovo Z5, however, when the Z5 launched it indeed featured a notch shattering the dreams of people wanting to avoid that feature. Lenovo has now gone official with a new version of the Z5 called the Z5 Pro; this device lacks a notch and has a 95% screen-to-body ratio.
The smartphone still has a front camera, but rather than being crammed into a notch, a sliding front camera module pops up behind the screen. Lenovo calls out a Snapdragon 710 SoC rather than the Snapdragon 845 most flagship smartphones are using. The screen is a 6.39-inch unit what has a native resolution of 1080 x 2340, and it’s made by Samsung.
The screen also hides the in-display fingerprint reader so there is no physical button anywhere. Power comes from a 3,350mAh battery promising to last for an average day of use. Out of the box, the Z5 Pro will run Android Oreo for the OS with Lenovo’s ZUI 10.0 interface on top; it’s not clear when an Android Pie update will land for the device. The pair of cameras that live behind the screen on the slider includes a 16MP sensor and an 8MP sensor with the smaller camera for IR facial recognition.
Dual rear cameras on the phone include a 16MP camera and a 24MP camera, both have a f/1.8 aperture and AI Super Night photography mode for snapping in low light. With no notch and an in-screen fingerprint reader you might expect a high price, but word is that the Z5 Pro will sell for 1,998 yuan or about $290 for the base model with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. A version with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage is tipped to cost $330.
