Red Dead Online: How to Avoid Griefing from Other Players

As the Red Dead Online beta continues, the absence of a ‘passive mode’ has some players wondering how to avoid griefers and player-killers in general.
The Wild West can be a cold, hard place, and players attempting to explore Red Dead Online‘s “Free Roam” mode may find themselves victims of frequent, and sometimes targeted, Player vs. Player combat. Unfortunately for those that are looking for some respite in Rockstar’s new online experience, their options are limited.
In what may come as a surprise to players that are new to Red Dead Online, there is currently no “passive mode.” Many multiplayer games, including Grand Theft Auto Online, allow players to opt-out of PvP by turning “passive mode” on, making them immune to damage from other players while being unable to damage others themselves. The absence of this feature in Red Dead Online means that a player can be killed by anyone at anytime, with one location acting as an exception: a player’s camp.
