WASHINGTON — President Trump has spent much of his White House tenure being his own chief of staff – growing more frustrated with his closest aides as he has become increasingly reliant on, as he calls it, his “gut.”
And now, as his current chief of staff is headed out, and his recently rumored replacement has bowed out from taking the position, the president may have to rely on himself, at least for a while.
Days after Trump announced that John Kelly, the Boston-born retired Marine Corps general who has served as his chief of staff since July of last year, would step down by year’s end, Trump’s top pick to replace Kelly announced on Twitter that he is leaving the administration.
