Asia markets set to be cautious amid ongoing US-China trade talks

The South China Morning Post reported Wednesday that Chinese President Xi Jinping will meet with U. S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and U. S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer on Friday.
Stocks in Asia were set to trade cautiously on Thursday despite overnight optimism from a report, which said Chinese President Xi Jinping is « scheduled to meet » with high-level members of the U. S. delegation this week in Beijing.
Australia’s ASX 200 rose 0.25 percent in morning trade as the heavily weighted financial subindex slipped 0.1 percent. Shares of the country’s so-called Big Four banks rose: Australia and New Zealand Banking Group gained 0.45 percent, Commonwealth Bank traded fractionally higher, National Australia Bank added 0.
