The Georgetown men’s basketball coach and former Hoyas star is in a Washington-area hospital.
Georgetown men’s basketball coach and former Hoyas and New York Knicks star Patrick Ewing says he has tested positive for COVID-19.
A statement issued by the university in Washington, D. C., said the 57-year-old coach is at a local hospital.
“I want to share that I have tested positive for COVID-19,” Ewing wrote in the statement that was posted to the Hall of Famer’s Twitter page. “I want to encourage everyone to stay safe and take care of yourselves and your loved ones.
“Now more than ever, I want to thank healthcare workers and everyone on the front lines. I’ll be fine and we will all get through this.”
The SEC’s announcement is the latest sign that a college football season will be launched in some form this fall. Other conferences are expected to follow suit, though decisions could be left to individual schools.
The move comes two days after the NCAA Division I Council voted to lift a moratorium on voluntary workouts on campus by football and basketball players, effective June 1.
