The IWLF has informed the Sports Authority of India about its decision to stop using equipment made in China.
Claiming to have received faulty equipment from China, the Indian Weightlifting Federation on Monday called for a boycott of sports apparatus made in that country.
Twenty Indian soldiers were killed and 76 injured in a violent clash with Chinese forces in eastern Ladakh’s Galwan Valley on June 15. China did not give an official count of casualties on its side but least 43 Chinese soldiers are believed to have been killed or injured in the clash. The face-off between the two neighbouring countries was the worst instance of violence on the border since 1975.
The IWLF ordered four weightlifting sets, comprising barbells and weight plates, from Chinese company ‘ZKC’ last year and federation said that the equipment turned out to be faulty; the weightlifters are no longer using them.
“We should boycott all Chinese equipment. The Indian Weightlifting Federation has taken the decision that it will not use any equipment made in China,” IWLF secretary general Sahdev Yadav told PTI.
