Scores of Samsung TV owners are complaining of purple patches appearing on their screens, ruining the picture quality. The problem – which appears to have been running for years and is continuing to afflict Samsung LED television owners – has been dismissed by the company as not an “inherent issue”. A 20-page thread on Samsung’s EU support site suggests dozens of customers are experiencing the same problem, with purple or magenta patches appearing on the screen over the course of time. “About six months [ago] I noticed that there were a couple of purple patches on the screen,” reads the initial complaint, which was posted back in 2017. “They are very noticeable with pale or white backgrounds especially adverts which often have a lot of white on the screen.” The Samsung customer, who had a two-year-old 48in LED Smart TV made by the company, claimed the condition got worse over a period of months. Similar complaints are made by many other customers on the same thread and others on the support forum, with several complaining that the fault occurred after only two or three years of ownership, but with the television now out of warranty.
