Has Disney’s ‘Star Wars’ Sequel Trilogy Been Abandoned Already?

What happened to the end of the Skywalker Saga?
Reading through the long, long list of Disney’s newly announced Star Wars spin-offs, the complete absence of the sequel trilogy is striking. No less than ten new Star Wars series were announced for Disney+ (if you count season 3 of The Mandalorian), with seemingly no focus on the sequels. The vast majority of new Star Wars content focuses on characters and concepts introduced way back during the prequel trilogy, as well as the animated spin-off, The Clone Wars. All of that groundwork laid by Dave Filoni, fleshing out the interesting ideas of the much-maligned prequel trilogy, seems to have really paid off. Of course, the fact that kids who were first exposed to Star Wars via the prequels, and unironically love them, means that the prequels have been sucked into the nostalgic side of the franchise – it’s still hard to believe that the return of Hayden Christensen could actually elicit an enthusiastic response from the fanbase. Obi-Wan, Lando, and Ahsoka are all getting their own series, and a Clone Wars spin-off called The Bad Batch, focusing on an enhanced group of super-soldier clone troopers, is also coming.
