Saturday Night Live will get the Regency treatment when Bridgerton star Regé-Jean Page makes his hosting debut on the NBC sketch comedy show this weekend. The 31-year-old British-Zimbabwean actor became an overnight sensation following the release of Netflix series, which was the first project to come from award-winning director and showrunner Shonda Rhimes’ multimillion-dollar deal with the streaming network. On the steamy show, set in 19th-century England, Page plays the dashing bachelor Simon Basset, Duke of Hastings, whose romance with debutant Daphne Bridgerton becomes the source of hot gossip spread by the mysterious columnist, Lady Whistledown. Page’s appearance marks his first time on SNL, however, the cast of the long-running comedy series have already poked fun at the Regency drama since its Netflix release.
