Boston-based Drizly, the delivery app that has alcohol delivered to your door, is being bought by Uber in a blockbuster deal worth over a billion dollars. Uber Technologies Inc. and Drizly on Tuesday announced they’ve reached an agreement for Uber to acquire Drizly for about $1.1 billion in stock and cash. “Wherever you want to go and whatever you need to get, our goal at Uber is to make people’s lives a little bit easier. That’s why we’ve been branching into new categories like groceries, prescriptions and, now, alcohol,” Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said in a statement. Drizly is an on-demand alcohol marketplace designed to be compliant with local regulations in more than 1,400 cities across the U.S., working with 4,200 stores that either deliver beer, wine and spirits to customers or have it sent to them by courier with “competitive, transparent pricing,” said CEO Cory Rellas, who co-founded the company in 2012.
