Since Jan. 6, four Iowans were arrested and charged including Deborah Sandoval, 54, Salvador Sandoval Jr, 23, Leo Christopher Kelly, 35, and Doug Jensen, 41, here’s what we know.
More than six weeks after the Jan.6 U. S Capitol riot, federal prosecutors continue to round up people who participated in the riot that led to then-President Donald Trump’s second impeachment, which like the first, ended in acquittal. Four Iowans have been arrested: Deborah Sandoval,54, of Des Moines, and her son Salvador Sandoval Jr,23, of Ankeny, who made initial court appearances Friday; Leo Christopher Kelly,35, of Cedar Rapids, arrested Jan.18; and Doug Jensen,41, of Des Moines, arrested Jan.9. Here’s what we know about them. Sandoval, along with her son, Salvador Sandoval Jr., are the latest Iowans to be arrested in connection with the riot. Deborah Sandoval is charged with entering a restricted building, impeding the orderly conduct of government, and violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds, according to the FBI’s Omaha field office. She was released from custody on her promise to appear at a hearing in Des Moines on Feb.25, followed later that day by a hearing over video conference with a court in Washington, D.C. She and her husband, Salvador Sandoval Sr., filed for bankruptcy in Polk County in 1998. They also filed for bankruptcy there in 2011, with $152,257 in debts and assets of $100,998. Deborah Sandoval’s Facebook page includes numerous postings in support of Trump’s baseless claim that the election was stolen from him. She also posted photos of her at a Trump « Back the Blue » parade that occurred in Des Moines on Oct.24. She appeared in one photo with a red car with several U.S., Blue Lives Matter and Trump flags, along with posters saying « This is a peaceful protest, » and « Pro-life voices for Trump. » According to Sandoval’s social media, she has worked as a leasing agent at an Ankeny apartment complex since 2016. It’s unclear if she still works there, and the company that operates the complex did not respond to a request for comment. Salvador Sandoval is charged with obstructing law enforcement, entering a restricted building, and violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds.
