Let’s get started with a list of locals with amazing outdoor (and an occasional indoor) concerts.
When does the 2021 summer concert season begin? When a local group plays an iconic Boston venue? Well, that would mean we have to wait until New Kids on the Block headline Fenway Park on Aug.6. No shade on NKOTB, but we can’t wait that long. Later in the summer, as the large venues begin to fill their calendars and seats, we’ll be back with another seasonal concert preview. For now, let’s get started with a list of locals with amazing outdoor (and an occasional indoor) concerts. The Eliot Schoolyard Concert Series, now through Sept.26, Jamaica Plain This free concert series (donations very much encouraged to support the artists) runs all summer with shows curated by Hoopla Productions, Oompa/The Record Co. and Brian Friedland. For a free series (don’t forget those donations!), the lineup of talent is excellent. From hip-hop to harp, jazz to steel drum, enjoy sets from Miranda Rae (June 13), Charles Overton (June 27), DJ WhySham (Aug.1) and a dozen more. Find the series on eventbrite.com. Rhythm Room Afternoons, Sundays into September, John Alden Sportsman’s Club, Plymouth These Sunday jams feature a wide range of sounds from rock and blues to funk and more. A cool $100 gets a car-load of people (up to 7) into the pavilion for a few bands and access to a bar and barbecue.
