Samsung’s Unpacked event is right around the corner. Here’s everything we expect to see.
Samsung is getting ready to hold its Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event on August 11. This is one of the company’s two annual launches where it unveils some of its most anticipated products. The event was confirmed recently with an invite reading, “Get ready to unfold,” making it clear that Samsung’s new foldable phones are coming. Also recently, a thread from leaker Evan Blass showcased 3D renders of all upcoming products. We’ve also seen evidence making it clear that the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch 4 Active will launch alongside the two new foldable devices. Aside from the new foldables and wearables, we may possibly get a cheaper version of the Galaxy S21 with the Galaxy S21 FE. The highlight of this launch is expected to be the Galaxy Z Fold 3. In the absence of the Note 21, the company’s second 2021 flagship is predicted to be the Galaxy Z Fold 3. In the lead-up to this event, leaks from a variety of sources have detailed the Galaxy Z Fold 3’s specs. The biggest change expected from the Fold is the adoption of the S Pen. This is not an unprecedented change; Samsung added it to the S21 Ultra earlier in the year, albeit without a place to slot it — unless you get a case. It does, however, make the absence of the Note 21 easier to swallow for pen enthusiasts. It won’t be the same old S Pen we’re used to on traditional smartphones and tablets, though. Samsung says that it’ll be introducing “the first-ever S Pen designed specifically for foldable phones” at Unpacked. The Z Fold 3 is expected to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888, up to 12GB of RAM, and 512GB of storage. A 4,400mAh battery and 25W fast charging help keep it topped up. On the outside, it will have a 6.2-inch display for use while it is folded. Unfolded, users will have a large 7.5-inch 120Hz QHD AMOLED display to consume media and be productive with. For color options, the models are black, white, and green. Samsung is expected to have this IP-certified for water and dust resistance as well. It would be the first foldable from Samsung to be IP certified, if true. Specifically, a report from Evan Blass says the phones will be IPX8 certified for water resistance (but not dust). One of the more interesting reports about this phone is the prediction of an under-display front camera on the main display. Rather than a notch or a cut-out, Samsung is expected to place the camera under the screen. It won’t be very large, though, with Blass claiming a small size of 4 megapixels.
