The Lakers’ quest to add a veteran point guard could lead them to Chris Paul. The Suns veteran, who is coming off an NBA Finals loss to the Bucks, is on the Lakers’ radar, according to The Undefeated’s Marc J. Spears. Paul, who is close with LeBron James, has a $44.2 million player option for the 2021-22 season. Paul could opt out and try for a three-year deal in Phoenix — or become an unrestricted free agent and ink a sign-and-trade with another team. Adding Paul could be complicated with the Lakers already over the salary cap. Without a sign-and-trade, Los Angeles would only be able to offer the 11-time All-Star point guard its $9.5 million mid-level exception – unless it wants to dip into the luxury tax. The Undefeated reported that Westbrook has been included in talks as a potential candidate for a sign-and-trade deal with the Lakers in exchange for free-agent point guard Dennis Schroder, forward Kyle Kuzma and guard Talen Horton-Tucker.
