If you thought the era of Marvel movie premieres was over, think again: After being delayed from its initial release over a year thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, Black Widow will finally open in theaters and on Disney+ this weekend. Admittedly, it is a very different kind of Marvel premiere, given that this time, viewers have the option to legally stream the superhero movie at home. Directed by Cate Shortland, Black Widow stars Scarlett Johansson in the role she has now played in over eight Marvel films: Natasha Romanoff, once a deadly assassin working for the KGB, now a bonafide superhero and member of the Avengers. Or at least, she used to be. When we meet up with Natasha in Black Widow, just after the events of Captain America: Civil War, the Avengers aren’t exactly a team.
