Here’s a look at the Deseret News standout high school athletes of Week 7 of the high school season for football, volleyball, girls soccer, boys golf, girls tennis and boys and girls cross country.
Ethan Jackson, Alta (Sr.) Had a sensational performance in leading Alta to the dominant 48-23 win over defending state champion Orem. Ethan Jackson completed 23 of 33 passes for 409 yards and seven touchdowns, with most of the damage coming in a 20-point second quarter in which Alta pulled away for good. For the season Jackson has passed for 2,169 yards and 23 touchdowns for the now 4-3 Hawks. “It was great to see our offense gel. Ethan Jackson had a great night connecting with wide receivers Jensen Campbell and Jace Turner,” said Alta coach Alema Teo. Emalee Plewe, Crimson Cliffs (Sr.) Crimson Cliffs sits all alone atop the Region 10 standings with a three-game cushion, and a big reason why is the steady play at the back from senior Emalee Plewe. She anchored the defense in wins over Dixie and Desert Hills last week, as the Mustangs are only allowing 0.7 goals per game in region. “Emalee is the ultimate leader of our team. She plays the often thankless position of center back. She doesn’t get recognition for scoring goals or assisting, but we would not be where we are without her. She is a fearless defender and will do anything to prevent our opponent team from scoring. She is fast, smart, and an exceptional soccer player. She is a true competitor and is the heart of our team,” said Crimson Cliffs coach Kat Esplin. Gabby Renaud, ICS (Sr.) ICS picked up a huge region win last week against visiting Rich, and once again one of the catalysts to the big win was senior Gabby Renaud. The outside hitter has been instrumental throughout the season in leading Intermountain Christian to the 17-2 record, and a perfect record against 1A competition in the state.
