Here we are focusing on how the Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro stack up against the Pixel 5 to help you decide whether you should upgrade.
Why you can trust Pocket-lint (Pocket-lint) – Google announced the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro smartphones on 19 October, succeeding the Pixel 5 that arrived in October 2020. We’ve compared how the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro compare in a separate feature, but here we are focusing on how the Pixel 6 stacks up against the Pixel 5. Prices Pixel 5: £599 / $699 / €630 Pixel 6: £599 / $599 / €649 Pixel 6 Pro: £849 / $899 / €899 Google appears to be shaking up the Pixel family with aggressive pricing. The Pixel 5 was reletively expensive when it launched – with some versions in the US costing more because of the mmWave antenna they also offered. On the Google Store, the Pixel 5 is no longer sold, but it’s still available from retailers. Both have a camera housing that stretches across their entire width, compared to the square housing positioned in the top left corner on the Pixel 5. While the Pixel 5 had a metal unibody design, the Pixel 6 now uses Gorilla Glass Victus front and back with an alloy core, polished around the edges and framing that camera bar. It’s a much higher quality look. There’s a punch hole camera at the top of the display in the centre in the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro, repositioning from the top left corner on the Pixel 5. The other big change in design is the introduction of an under-display fingerprint sensor on the Pixel 6, rather than the physical sensor on the rear of the Pixel 5. The Pixel 6 and 6 Pro are also a little more exciting in terms of colours, with blocks of colours on the rear. In terms of physical measurements, the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are both larger than the Pixel 5, as well as thicker.
