Nikki Haley, the former South Carolina governor, officially joined the presidential race on Tuesday, making her the first major candidate to challenge former president Donald Trump in the Republican primary.
Haley filed her candidacy papers with the Federal Election Commission and announced her bid in a video posted on Twitter.
Haley, who served as United Nations ambassador under Trump, is expected to frame her campaign as a contrast to the former president and seemed to indirectly take aim at him in her video announcement.
