The UC Irvine women’s basketball team has been hit hard by injuries this season, but the squad had been able to play through them – until now.
Indicating that they would not have enough available players, the Anteaters on Friday canceled their next two games: Saturday at UC Davis and Monday against Cal Poly.
“With the health and well-being of our student-athletes as our top priority and due to a limited number of available healthy student-athletes we, in collaboration with our sports medicine team, have decided to cancel our upcoming games against UC Davis and Cal Poly,” UCI athletic director Paula Smith said in a statement.
The games will not be rescheduled and will be declared no-contests per Big West Conference policy.
