In July 2022, USC treated 7-foot freshman Vince Iwuchukwu for cardiac arrest when he collapsed on the basketball floor during a workout, administering CPR, calling 911, and using an AED, all of which ultimately saved Iwuchukwu’s life and allowed him to keep playing basketball.
Last year’s scary incident gave the school experience in treating a sudden cardiac arrest when Bronny, the eldest son of NBA superstar LeBron James, collapsed due to cardiac arrest on Monday morning at USC’s Galen Center while practicing and was rushed to the Cedar Sinai Hospital in West Hollywood.
