How Twitter's name change may be ‘bad news’ for its paid users

Hackers are sending phishing emails disguised as Twitter’s rebranded micro-blogging platform X, to target Twitter Blue users. The emails ask unsuspecting users to migrate their current Blue subscription over to an X one, but when clicked, the link leads to a URL housed at a domain that doesn’t appear to be affiliated with Twitter or X. If Twitter users click the « authorise app » option, hackers can take almost full control of their Twitter accounts.
Elon Musk-owned micro-blogging platform was recently rebranded to X. The latest change has confused several users and cybercriminals are reportedly taking advantage of this chaos. According to a report by 9to5Mac, hackers are sending phishing emails disguised to be coming from X. A Twitter user named “Fluffypony” recently discovered such an email and reported the same. Titled “Preserve your status. Transition smoothly”, these emails are targeting Twitter Blue users and are asking them to migrate their current Blue subscription over to an X one.
