Brown University students hold vigil for classmate injured in Vermont shooting

Students at Brown University held a vigil Monday night for a classmate and two other young men of Palestinian descent who were shot over the weekend in Vermont.
Hisham Awartani, a 20-year-old junior at Brown, was spending his Thanksgiving break in Burlington and was out for a walk on Saturday when he and two other 20-year-olds, Kinnan Abdalhamid and Tahseen Ali Ahmad, were confronted by a white man with a handgun.
Burlington police Chief Jon Murad said two of the young men were struck in their torsos while the third was shot in the lower extremities.
All three were being treated at the University of Vermont Medical Center and Awartani’s uncle said his nephew faces a long recovery due to a spinal injury.
