With the announcement of a live action Legend of Zelda movie stirring up fans, it’s time to discuss what games could be adapted into a film.
Nintendo recently announced that a live action film based on the iconic Legend of Zelda franchise is currently in production. Sony Pictures’ Avi Arad is set to co-produce alongside Shigeru Miyamoto, and Wes Ball is set to direct. This was no surprise for fans of the company, especially after the huge success of the animated Super Mario Bros movie.
There are, however, a lot of questions that fans have been asking about the new Zelda movie. One of the most prominent involves which game the movie will be based on. The Legend of Zelda franchise has a huge array of titles to choose from, spanning a long but confusing timeline. Here are some of the games in the franchise that could result in a solid plot for the new movie. 6 The Legend of Zelda (1986)
The plot of the first game in the franchise is quite bare bones. It is a basic “Damsel in Distress” story, in which Link has to save Princess Zelda from Ganon. While this may seem underwhelming at first, it could serve as an empty canvas if the creators handle it properly. The Super Mario Bros movie managed to adapt the plot of the even simpler game into a decent, albeit brief, story.
Basing the live action Zelda movie on the original game gives Nintendo and Sony the potential to do pretty much anything they want, especially since fans aren’t too attached to these incarnations of the characters. The only real problem, though, is that the antagonist of this title is Beast Ganon. The villain of the film would have to be a CGI monster, meaning one less chance to cast a recognizable actor. 5 Skyward Sword (2011)
The timeline of The Legend of Zelda series is quite widespread, and it is currently unknown if Nintendo and Sony plan to tackle it from the beginning.
