Perseverance joins the 1,000-sols club on Mars, congratulated by Curiosity

NASA’s Perseverance rover this week reached 1,000 martian sols after arriving on the faraway planet in February 2021.

The rover, NASA’s most advanced to date, announced the achievement in a post on social media on Tuesday, adding: “My work is far from done.”
A martian sol is a little longer than a full day on Earth, lasting 24 hours, 39 minutes, and 35 seconds.
Perseverance has been spending its martian days diligently exploring parts of the Jezero Crater in a bid to discover if life ever existed on the planet. As part of this effort, the rover has been gathering rock samples that will be returned to Earth in a separate mission so that scientists can take a closer look using advanced laboratory equipment.
