Dexter Scott King, the youngest son of the late Martin Luther King Jr., died at the age of 62.
Dexter Scott King, the youngest son of the late Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King, died on Monday, January 22. Dexter was 62 years old and passed away from prostate cancer, his wife Leah Weber confirmed in a statement.
“He transitioned peacefully in his sleep at home with me in Malibu,” Leah said. “He gave it everything and battled this terrible disease until the end. As with all the challenges in his life, he faced this hurdle with bravery and might.”

Dexter went to college at Moorehouse College, his father’s alma mater, and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. In 1989, Dexter took over the King Center for Nonviolent Social Change, but he resigned after only four months due to a dispute with his mother.
